Dear May,

I remember when you arrived and school was out,

We packed our bags with joyful shouts

The road open, adventures drew near,

We set out on journeys with those we held dear

Time spent with  grandparents in our younger days,

Amusing stories, yummy food, and their warm embrace

Eating popsicles with our cousins in the summer sun,

Climbing mango tress, swinging on branches, simply having fun

Spending lazy afternoons in golden rays, waiting for fresh breeze by the bays

running on the beach where waves caress, the salty air and cool water was pure happiness

Memories captured, hearts aglow… Dear May, the sweet time you brought was when the magic flowed

People and Places: Unveiling Hidden Gems

On our new section for Insider, we’ll cover details about one place from where a fellow Wisdmer is. This time we have Udismita, who is orginaly from Assam but right now lives in West Bengal. She shares with us details about her home and neighbouring states.

Exploring the Enchanting Land of the North East

Assam, located in northeastern India, captivates visitors with its diverse culture, rich history, and breathtaking scenery. Assam, known as the gateway to Northeast India, shares borders with Bhutan, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Meghalaya, creating a melting pot of ethnic diversity and cultural richness.

One of Assam’s most well-known features is its tea plantations. The state is synonymous with Assam tea, a robust and flavorful black tea popular around the world. Visiting the lush tea gardens, particularly in Jorhat and Dibrugarh, provides an immersive experience into the tea-making process as well as the opportunity to sample some of the finest teas straight from the source.

Assam’s natural beauty is equally appealing. The mighty Brahmaputra River runs through the state, providing breathtaking views and supporting a distinct ecosystem. The Kaziranga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is home to the largest population of one-horned rhinoceroses.

Meghalaya, which is nearby, enhances the region’s appeal with Shillong and Cherrapunjee. Referred to as the “Scotland of the East,” Shillong is renowned for its scenic vistas and the November Cherry Blossom Festival, which adorns the city with pink blossoms and cultural events. One of the wettest locations on earth, Cherrapunjee is well-known for its waterfalls and verdant surroundings. It also offers breathtaking views and unusual living root bridges.

Arunachal Pradesh and Tawang offer breathtaking snow-capped views and tranquil landscapes. Tawang, a destination known for its ancient monasteries and pristine beauty, provides a glimpse into the region’s spiritual and natural splendour.

In essence, Assam and its surrounding regions provide an ideal balance of nature, culture, and history, promising an enchanting and enriching experience.

The Hidden Churches of Goa

Goa is known for its beaches, parties, and probably the Basalica of Bom Jesus (a UNESCO World Heritage Site). But did you know there are many other churches in Goa (and just as many temples?!) Namrata, on her May vacation to Goa, went about exploring some lesser-known churches. Here’s a look along with scenic pictures of the beach!
